What is a Scaraaf scarf made of?

100% mulberry silk twill, 16 momme, woven on heritage looms in Como, Italy. Each piece is hand-rolled and hand-finished — the small irregularities are part of it.

How large is a standard scarf?

Our square format measures 90 × 90 cm. The long-format Editions measure 140 × 30 cm. Exact dimensions are listed on each product page.

Why is it called Scaraaf?

From the Old Dutch for scarab — the smallest carried object. Each scarf carries our scarab mark, hand-embroidered into the lower-right corner.

Are the prints original?

Yes. Every motif is commissioned from an artist we work with directly. Permanent Collection prints are reissued each season; Editions are made once and never repeated.

Can I hand-wash my scarf?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Cold water, a drop of pH-neutral soap, no twisting. Lay flat on a clean towel to dry, away from direct sun. We prefer this to dry cleaning.

Should I iron it?

If needed, on the reverse side, silk setting, with a thin cotton cloth between iron and silk. Steam works too — held at a distance.

How do I store it between wears?

Loosely folded in the cotton pouch it arrived in. Avoid plastic, hangers, and sealed boxes. Silk likes to breathe.

What about stains?

Blot, never rub. For anything stubborn, take it to a silk-specialist dry cleaner. Write to us first if you're unsure — we've seen most of it.

Where do you ship from, and how long does it take?

All orders ship from Amsterdam. Netherlands 1–2 working days, EU 2–4, UK & Switzerland 3–5, rest of world 5–8. Tracked and insured throughout.

Do I pay customs or import duties?

Within the EU, no. Orders to the UK, Switzerland, US and elsewhere may incur local duties on arrival — these are the recipient's responsibility.

What is your return window?

Thirty days from delivery, on any Permanent Collection piece. Editions are final sale — please read the page carefully before ordering.

What condition does the scarf need to be in?

Unworn, with its original pouch and tags. We inspect each return by hand before refunding.

How long do refunds take?

Five to seven working days after we receive and inspect the return. The refund goes back to the original payment method.

Can I exchange for another print?

Yes — write to us within the return window and we'll hold the new piece for you.

How are Editions numbered?

Each Edition is hand-numbered (e.g. 12 / 75) on the selvedge, alongside the artist's signature. Once the run is sold, it does not return.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Every order arrives in our linen-wrapped box with a hand-tied ribbon. At checkout you can add a handwritten card with your message.

Can I send a gift without prices?

Yes. Tick the gift option at checkout and we'll omit the invoice from the parcel. A digital receipt goes to you.
